How to check the LED light?

I know this is a basic question but some my friend don't have any idea about this.

LED is glow at very low voltage, when we connect LED with 9 Volt battery we must connect the resistor with LED otherwise LED will damage.

In multi meter there is present small voltage which is enough to glow the LED light. so to check the LED take the any type of multi-meter, put the pointer on the continuity and then connect the LED to two probs of the multi-meter. If the LED glow then we can conclude that the LED is in working condition & If not then the led is damage.
